چکیده
Case presentation: A 12-year-old child with a history of varicella infection for 7 days. On the seventh day, patient presented prostration, inappetence, gait ataxia, dysdiadochokinesia, bilateral eye movement decomposition, pupils equal, round and reactive to light, no focal deficit absence fever. Clinical support, laboratory tests, CSF analysis, imaging exams were initiated. test hemogram normal; C-reactive protein negative; electrolytes, renal hepatic function also normal. neurological consult was requested, dexamethasone acyclovir administered in intravenous infusion. The evolved favorably showing significant improvement deficits. Acyclovir maintained 14 days 07 discharged referred an outpatient neurology service.

Viral Encephalitis and acute Cerebellar Ataxia Due to Late Reactivation of Varicella- Zoster Virus in an Immunocompetent Child
Reactivation of latent Varicella-Zoster virus may cause various neurological complications including meningitis, encephalitis, myelitis, vasculopathy resulting in stroke and pseudotumor cerebri. It occurs mainly in elderly or immunocompromised patients and is very rare in children. We report a 4-year and 6-months old immunocompetent boy who developed encephalitis and cerebellites, due to reacti...

We report on an 18-year-old man with common variable immunodeficiency presenting with abdominal pain and vomiting due to gastric ulcers caused by reactivation of varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Endoscopy revealed multiple ulcers in the gastric antrum. Fever and rash developed the next day. Skin biopsy showed multinucleated cells with intranuclear inclusions highly suggestive of VZV infection, and...
متن کاملSpectrum of centrosome autoantibodies in childhood varicella and post-varicella acute cerebellar ataxia
BACKGROUND Sera from children with post-varicella infections have autoantibodies that react with centrosomes in brain and tissue culture cells. We investigated the sera of children with infections and post-varicella ataxia and related conditions for reactivity to five recombinant centrosome proteins: gammagamma-enolase, pericentrin, ninein, PCM-1, and Mob1. METHODS Sera from 12 patients with ...
متن کاملAcute cerebellar ataxia.
Acute cerebellar ataxia occurring in childhood is a definite clear-cut syndrome, yet only three cases appear to have been reported in the British literature (Batten, 1907; Taylor, 1913), although more recently cases with similar features have been included in wider surveys on encephalitis by Brewis (1954) and on ataxia by Shanks (1950). Typically the clinical picture is characterized by the sud...
